History of Colorado Gamma

The History of Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa
In the beginning, principals submitted names of outstanding women educators interested in joining an honorary teachers' sorority.  Ten charter members were initiated at the first meeting with three more adding to the second meeting.  On October 4, 1953 these 13 women met at Ruth's Oven Restaurant on Tejon Street with National President Agnes Shipman Robertson present from the ADK headquarters located in Kansas City, MO.  She presented the charter and helped organize the chapter.  She also installed the following officers and chairpersons: 1st President, Emma Kinner, Vice President Frances Glau, Corresponding Secretary, Eunice Sorenson, Treasurer, Hazel Howe, Recording Secretary, Lucielle Ficklin, Co-Chaplins, Judith Briscoe and Julian Graves, Historian, Fran Slinkman, and finally Eleanor Griffith,  Seargent-at-Arms.  Emma went on to become State Secretary and Eunice State Vice-President and wasl elected State President in 1956 until her death in 1958.
The chapter Gamman is aptly named because Gamma is the 3rd letter in the Greek alphabet and we are the 3rd chapter in Colorado and the first in Colorado Springs.  On that special day in October of 1953, no one else was in the audience to applaud the new members so they congratulated themselve. Now there are more than 40 members to applaud new initiates.  Our mission is the same: Joining Hands, minds and hearts in dedication to promoting educational excellence, altruism and worldwide understanding.......
